FOR LOVE, FOR LUCK, FOR LIFE

In today's world, it is easy to lose sight of the spiritual things that nourish our souls. Love. Unity. The miracle of Life. These are the inspiration for Makori, which means "source" in hebrew.

In designing our collection, we considered what gives and sustains meaning over time: things that speak to the soul, not to the ego. To that end, we infuse special hidden meanings into our designs. Our pieces are meant to engender a moment of personal reflection for the sentiments and wishes embodied within.

Our collection imparts it's spiritual essence to the wearer through the use of Gematria numerology. Gematria is an ancient system frequently associated with Kabbalah that assigns a numerical value to each letter of the Hebrew alphabet. To translate gematria concepts into physical jewelry, our skilled artisans hand set gematria- value numbers of precious diamonds into fine gold or platinum, according to the sentiment or wish being represented.

The best-known example of Hebrew gematria is the word CHAI, which means "life" and is composed of the two letters Chet (ח) and Yud (י) that add up to 18. Thus 18 and multiples of 18 are considered lucky numbers signifying love, health, happiness, and long life. 36 is "double chai" (two lives) an especially meaningful expression of love between two people sharing their lives together.

Authentic Makori jewels have a diamond or precious stone count that corresponds to a gematria value for life, love, luck, unity/devotion, and strength.

One can also combine diamond counts to represent more than one sentiment. For example "love for life". In this case, 13 (love) and 18 (life) would be expressed as a total of 31 diamonds.

Following are some expressions of Gematria represented in our collections:

One: Unity. Gematria of the hebrew letter aleph (א), representing unity and devotion.

Seven: Luck. Gematria of the hebrew word "gad (גד) meaning luck. Also the creation of the world in 7 days. One of the most powerful and lucky numbers in the bible.

Thirteen: Love.Gematria of the hebrew word "ahava" (אהבה), meaning love.

Twenty four: "My beloved." Gematria of the hebrew word dodi ( 'דוד) , meaning "my beloved", as in the phrase "I am to my beloved and my beloved to me."

Twenty eight: Strength. Gematria of the hebrew word "koach" (כח), meaning strength.

Thirty six: Two lives. 18 x 2= double chai (חי), representing 2 lives.
