Gematria
Gematria is an ancient system frequently associated with Kabbalah concepts that assigns a numerical value to each letter of the Hebrew alphabet.
The best-known example of Hebrew gematria is the word CHAI, which means "life" and is composed of the two letters Chet (ח) and Yud (י) that add up to 18. Thus 18 and multiples of 18 are considered lucky numbers representing love, health, happiness, and long life. 36 is "double chai" (two lives) an especially meaningful expression of love between two people sharing their lives together.
Signature Makori jewels have a diamond or precious stone count that corresponds to a gematria value for life, love, luck, or strength. We also create custom gematria pieces on request.
A few examples of gematria are:
One: Unity. Gematria of the hebrew letter aleph (א), representing unity and devotion.
Seven: Luck. Gematria of the hebrew word "gad (גד) meaning luck. Also the creation of the world in 7 days. One of the most powerful and lucky numbers in the bible.
Thirteen: Love. Gematria of the hebrew word "ahava" (אהבה), meaning love.
Twenty four: "My beloved." Gematria of the hebrew word "dodi" ( 'דוד) , meaning "my beloved", as in the phrase "I am to my beloved and my beloved to me."
Twenty eight: Strength. Gematria of the hebrew word "koach" (כח), meaning strength.
Thirty six: Two lives. 18 x 2= double chai (חי), representing 2 lives.
The possibilities for gematria are endless and these are only a few examples. If you have a special value you would like to represent in a piece of jewellry, we will be happy to work with you to create it. Contact us at info@makorijewels.com.
